Dissertation printing and binding

The Print Unit offers a thermal binding service suitable for dissertations and thesis submissions. We bind using a special cover with a clear front and white card back, with the pages glued into the spine.
You can either supply the printed document or we can print it for you. If you are supplying pre-printed pages, they must be flat and not folded, creased or dog-eared. If pages are not supplied perfectly flat it increases the risk of the binding coming apart.
The maximum number of sheets we can bind in a single book is 400 (assuming normal 80gsm copy paper). If your thesis exceeds this number of pages we may have to bind it in more than one volume.
Please note: thermal binding is a temporary binding only. Whilst we take care to ensure the integrity of every binding, it will not permanently hold pages securely, particularly after prolonged, repeated or careless handling.
Normal turnaround time for binding jobs is 24 hours.
The normal turnaround time for printing and binding is 3 working days.

Charges for binding only are as follows:
Small sizes (up to 12mm thick, approx 120 sheets): £2.50 per book
Large sizes (over 12mm thick, approx 120 plus sheets): £4.00 per book
