Positive Psychology is the science and practice of improving wellbeing. It began in 1998 as a rebellious discipline and social movement. Since, it’s had a large increase in research output and social impact and has gained attention from scientists, practitioners and the public.
On this module, you’ll explore its key ideas and experiment with its methods. Topics include:
- happiness
- wellbeing
- positive emotions
- optimism
- strengths and virtues
- mindfulness
- positive relationships
- stress
- coping
- resilience.
You’ll take an evidence-based, experimental and critical approach.
Module learning outcomes
- Show appreciation of the historical background and conceptual basis of Positive Psychology
- Devise arguments relevant to Positive Psychology concepts and findings, including synthesising empirical evidence
- Manage their own learning of Positive Psychology
